Edfords Care Farm works with school groups from across the region.
Educational visits at Edfords are offered in a variety of forms, we have regular groups who are with us every week as well as less regular visits and one off school trips.
Those who are with us regularly work through our non-accredited apprenticeship teaching the students how to work with livestock, manage vegetable gardens from preparation through to harvesting the produce they’ve grown.
Edfords also tries to teach life skills and one of the key skills we feel is important to all people is the ability to cook their own meals, for this reason we teach them to not only grow all their own produce but also to prepare and cook their own meals from this produce.
There are other things we like to teach which are more for the fun than the practicality, for example we have sausage making days where they choose the flavours they want to try and we make the sausages and have them for lunch, if there is time we will also teach them how to make bread rolls and have them as hot dogs.
We feel the farm to fork approach is essential to teach future generations the importance of where their food comes from.
