Edfords uses Green Space Therapy to support vulnerable adults and youngsters form across the region.
At Edfords Care Farm we offer support to vulnerable adults and youngsters living in various forms of care as well as those in education. We use green space therapies to help each of our co-workers achieve their personal goals whether they are looking for support on their own ladder of recovery, working toward independence or looking for a safe place where they can be themselves and enjoy their time taking part in the activities on offer at Edfords.
The farm is based on 84 acres in Mautby, Norfolk making it a small enough site to feel safe but large enough to work with the variety of animals we keep on the farm some of which are themselves vulnerable and need to be supported to ensure their survival as a breed.
Edfords isn’t only about animals, we also have a large vegetable garden giving us the opportunity to grow a wide variety of produce on the farm. Our co-workers are heavily involved in what we grow on the farm and the very keen gardeners are invited to manage their own plot if they wish. There are also polytunnels at Edfords which is where we start a lot of our plants from seed, it also gives us the opportunity to extend our growing season as well as another place to work throughout the year meaning Edfords is a great place to be all year around.
We want our co-workers to enjoy their time with us, not only spending time with the animals but also through working the land producing good local fruit and vegetables which we will not only grow together but prepare and cook with to make our lunch during the day. This is an incredibly rewarding element of the farm to be involved from farm to fork and we believe these skills not only help as a form of therapy but also for those looking to move into independence in the future.
Edfords has been designed to cater for a number of different levels of ability from working in the petting area with the rabbits and guinea pigs through to full farm maintenance all the time giving everyone time to be themselves in a peaceful and rewarding setting with the opportunity to be involved in a variety of new activities.
Everyone is welcome to a trial day at Edfords so they can determine if it is something they will enjoy, if you wish to know more about the farm and care farming please contact us and we can answer any questions you may have.
